As a reminder, nutrition is HIGHLY individualized, which is why most of the time, cookie cutter approaches don’t work.
What is discussed in this video is based on current research and averages that are seen in the sports nutrition world.
Some of my day is spent educating athletes of all ages how to fuel their bodies for their sport and prevent injury. The body can store up to 2000 calories on average worth of glycogen, the storage form of glucose.
Why is this important? Glycogen is a source of fuel that can be used for performance. We talk about the two different types of energy systems commonly used during performance with our athletes, the aerobic and the anaerobic system.
Aerobic typically refers to anything involving more of a steady state training, such as long distance running, walking, cycling. Anaerobic typically is utilized in sports that involve quick bursts of energy, such as sprints, interval training, and power movements.
Each system requires different energy source to avoid “hitting the wall”.
That is where RDNs come in- we will assess what energy system you utilize the most and make sure you are fueling for that sport optimally.
