Go Gray in May for Brain Cancer Awareness Month with us (virtually at your own pace) and walk in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month!
Before I dive into the challenge, here’s a little more about accountability from an RDN’s perspective- and how joining a challenge can help you get started.
Food Journaling and Accountability:
If what is standing in the way from food journaling is the variation of how many calories are in specific foods based on what you select, we need to recognize that this is already an erroneous way of thinking. Food labels have a 20% error rate alone, coupled with not measuring 100% accurately (there really is no way to measure 100% accurately unless you are a food scientist), along with food journaling itself having multiple variables- we need to learn to estimate.
Your body has different needs Every. Single. Day. Don’t get stuck in what I like to call “analysis paralysis”. The whole point of journaling is accountability- as RDNs we can help you more if you record what you are consuming.
Movement and Accountability:
If what is standing in the way from movement sounds a little like “I don’t have the time”, “I’m too busy”, “I don’t know how to get started”, “What I have time for won’t make a difference.” “I just can’t seem to find the motivation.” NEWSFLASH- motivation is fleeting. Instead, following through with your goals is about 1. a level of importance and 2. the confidence and tools to follow through.
This is where your friendly neighborhood RDN comes in- follow me on MapMyWalk and I will get notified every time you get a walk in! Let’s keep each other accountable to do 30 miles this month.
How to join the Challenge on Map My Walk:
- Start moving with me on MapMyWalk!
Track your workouts, join challenges, and crush your fitness goals like a champ. https://mapmywalk.app.link/invite - After downloading the app, click on the three lines at the top left corner of the screen.
- Click on the tab that says “Friends”
- Click the + icon at the bottom right corner. It is a black circle with a white plus sign.
- Click the top right hand corner, magnifying glass.
- Search the email [email protected] or Michele Pflug.
- Add me as a friend, then I can add you to the challenge!
If you keep your profile private, (which we, of course, respect privacy) I cannot add you to the challenge, but that is okay! I can still see that you are completing your walks if we are friends on the app.
It’s that simple, follow the steps or do the challenge on your own and let your PTs or RDNs know that you are doing it! Share on social media, spread the love and, for lack of a better term- MOTIVATION!
A little more about #GrayMay….
Caruso Physical Therapy and Nutrition is choosing to connect to our community during #GrayMay.
“Gray May is a time to come together to support the nearly 1 million Americans who are estimated to be living with brain tumors and their care partners who are united by difference — each representing a unique point along the grayscale of the brain tumor experience.”
We continue to pass on Dr. Joe Caruso’s love, his care for others, and his support in the community in our day to day lives at Caruso Physical Therapy and Nutrition as health practioners in Allentown, NJ.
Joe believed in a full bodied approach to his fight. It is nothing short of a miracle to not only battle brain cancer for 13 years, but live a life of serving others in the process. Joe changed the world and defied the odds. Although his physical presence has left the clinic and our lives, we know that we will continue to live out his mission, his purpose, and his passion.
Because of Joe, this mission began: to create a healthy you from the inside out. Today, because of all of us at the clinic, his mission continues. I’m proud to be apart of continuing a real life superhero’s mission; I hope you’re proud of us too!
