Common Athlete Nutrition Deficiencies

This month our focus is on athletes, so I’m here to give you a sports nutrition tip from an expert, an RDN, aka me!

The most common deficiencies we see in athletes are vitamin B12 and iron, which can affect your performance as an athlete.

Does this mean every person should be on a supplement?

ABSOLUTELY NOT. First, supplements are not regulated by the FDA- it is a must to consult the proper professionals, Registered Dietitians. Vitamins in excess, even if they are water soluble, can lead to unpleasant side effects. Also, fat soluble vitamins and minerals in excess can have an extremely detrimental impact on our health.

Rule of thumb? Don’t consult Dr. Google, consult the expert. We have the answers that will keep you safe and performing your best. Reach out to an RDN to see what sports supplements are right for you as an individual.
