Wanted: Your Healthiest Recipe

By | March 6, 2017

Starting my internship at Caruso Physical Therapy and Nutrition during National Nutrition Month® has given me an opportunity to gain experience hosting a charity event while promoting the importance of healthy nutrition along the way. With the help of Michele, the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist at Caruso Physical Therapy and Nutrition, we have planned a contest to bring the community together with FOOD! Yes, FOOD!

We have organized ‘Your Best Healthy Recipe” contest and event to celebrate National Nutrition Month®. We are asking the community to submit their favorite healthy recipes to create a cookbook to sell, with all proceeds going towards the Allentown Food Pantry at the end of the contest.

Since it is the month to focus on healthy nutrition, we have come up with an idea to teach others about healthy eating through their own recipes. The Registered Dietitians at Caruso Physical Therapy and Nutrition will be suggesting healthier options for each recipe in the book alongside the original recipe.

This twist on the cookbook will give me as a teen intern an idea for healthier alternatives on normal recipes. This will help me associate better with how Registered Dietitians help others to a healthier lifestyle.

It’s important  for me to understand the job of a Dietitian and how to live a healthy life to be able to have a better input on this career path as well as being able to apply what I will be learning here into my own eating habits and lifestyle. Organizing this event has been a bit nerve racking and has challenged me to work on coming out of my shell and communicating with others.

I was given big project on my first ever internship and I am excited to see the outcome of this event and how much I will learn from this first experience of organizing my first event.

A closing ceremony will be held for all those who wish to bring their dish to share with our judges on National Agriculture Day, Tuesday, March 21st at 6:30 pm. In order to be the featured recipe at the Moth Coffee House in Allentown, you must bring in your dish to our closing ceremony.

I am excited to have this opportunity to work with my classmates and look forward to getting to know my community a little better. I moved here 2 years ago, so I think this fun project will allow me to meet more people.

Here is the press release associated with the event:

Over the years nutrition has always been important to me because eating better can help you mentally and physically. The kind of food and amount of food can affect the way you feel and how you think. Over the years I have learned what good nutrition can do for the mind and body. Good nutrition can help prevent any illnesses or diseases to the body. It amuses me how just by eating healthy you can receive so many benefits from it.

Being apart of “Your Best Healthy Recipe” contest shows that you can still eat your favorite foods but just changing them to make them healthier for you. You are still able to enjoy your favorite foods with the same taste to them. If you are trying to eat healthier and become more healthy for yourself but find it difficult to not eat your favorite foods this will allow you not to get rid of your favorite foods. It can even help introduce you to new recipes you might enjoy yourself.
